ICE DANCING

January 2009

Sonoma, California

And now for something completely different and deliciously frothy as I toast the new year with a glass of champagne.  I read this horoscope for Libra (yes, my astrological Sun sign) today:

"Flirtation is a powerful asset. It comes from a genuine interest in the charms of another and is often the beginning of loyal allegiances and happy endings. Flirt. With babies, dogs, and little old ladies, express your joy in their presence. The child of Venus must specialize in relationships, from whence all blessings flow. Share the love."

So simple, so unintellectual, so feminine, so masculine, so all of us who trip the light fantastic looking for the magic to turn the ordinary to the extraordinary.  The bearable likeness of being.  I do like the description of flirtation as expressed in this horoscope reading.  "Express your joy in their presence.  The child of Venus must specialize in relationships, from whence all blessings flow.  Share the love."

Who am I to deny this frothiness that bubbles up to spill over like too many champagne bubbles?  Who are you not to feel good as the recipient of such joy?  I love, really love the lightness of this way of being.  I, along with so many others can catch dark clouds and loom with them until I am pounded by sheets of rain. Sometimes it is easier to imagine that which looms darkly round the corner than that which would have me ice dancing to Ravel's Bolero.

Oh, yes, I like that very much: ice dancing to Ravel's Bolero.  Ahhhhhh.  "It comes from a genuine interest in the charms of another and is often the beginning of loyal allegiances and happy endings."  Hmmmmm.  Imagine our world if we all flirted to this end.

By all means, flirt as if your joy depended on it. Go on. Ice dancing to Ravel's Bolero is the ultimate flirtation, I think.  Maestro, may I begin my dance now?
